About our founder, Dr. Christie Cornelius

Dr.-Christie-Cornelius

Dr. Christie Cornelius graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M University in 2004. After eight years in GP and emergency medicine, she founded Last Wishes, an in-home pet hospice and euthanasia service in Houston, in 2012. The following year, Dr. Cornelius founded The Fair Winds Fund, a 501c non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to families needing end-of-life care for their ailing pets.

In 2017, Dr. Cornelius became one of the first veterinarians in the world to become certified as a hospice and palliative care veterinarian through the International Association for Animal Hospice & Palliative Care. That same year, she opened the first pet hospice center in Texas and re-branded her company to Senior Paws. Dr. Cornelius grew Senior Paws into a large interdisciplinary team of over twenty highly skilled veterinary professionals working to improve service and outcomes for pets and their caregiving families.

In 2021, Dr. Cornelius and two other pet hospice companies on the west coast partnered with BluePearl Veterinary Specialists to form the start of BluePearl Pet Hospice to expand the reach of pet hospice to other communities nationally and internationally. After staying on as a medical director for a year to assist with the transition, Dr. Cornelius left her role at BluePearl to further her business education in an MBA program at Rice University. She moved to Galveston in April of 2022, where she currently resides with her partner, three dogs, four cats, and four backyard hens. Dr. Cornelius is pleased to call Galveston home and is grateful to continue providing much-needed comfort care to the senior pet population on the island and its surrounding communities.

Camille Perkins, Operations Manager & CVT

I have been a technician for over a decade and have focused on hospice and end-of-life care for the last five years. I graduated magna cum laude from Argosy University in Minnesota. It is an honor to be of service, providing comfort to pets and their beloved families as they move through their end-of-life voyage. My favorite thing is walking with my partner and pets along the Gulf of Mexico beach, combing for treasures. I also enjoy observing the wildlife in our area, driving the golf cart around the island to connect with my community, and spoiling my backyard chickens.
